Scholarships Benefit Community

Eleven students were awarded a total of $19,000 in scholarships to pursue degrees in engineering, welding, and drafting at a recent ceremony at Sierra College.

As the last Walsh Family member with no heirs of her own, Marian Walsh chose to establish a lasting memorial for her parents. Her bequest established the John G. and Lillian M. Walsh Family Scholarship Fund, which awards scholarships to graduates from the Auburn area, where the Walsh Family lived for four generations. Through this memorial scholarship, entrusted to the Placer Community Foundation, the legacy of the Walsh Family continues; investing in the future through our community’s youth.

David Calabretta told us that “This scholarship has motivated me to continue in school,” while Drake Whitton said, “I am honored to get this scholarship, it means a lot to me. I look forward to seeing where my welding career takes me.”
