A Legacy of Generosity: How Bob and Stephanie Snyder Give Back Through Placer Community Foundation

Bob and Stephanie Snyder, long-time residents of Auburn, give back to their community through the Placer Community Foundation (PCF). Their story highlights their civic engagement, thoughtful philanthropy, and dedication to improving life for others.

Bob, a retired civil engineer and successful developer, and Stephanie, a former public servant for city managers and county executives, focus their support on local nonprofits and causes that foster community pride and engagement.

They established the Robert and Stephanie Snyder Fund, a donor-advised fund at PCF. In addition to the charities they care about, Bob and Stephanie regularly access the team at PCF for additional funding opportunities such as fire relief efforts and support of free training and consultation for Placer County nonprofits through PCF’s Nonprofit Initiative. Additionally, Bob and Stephanie are members of PCF’s Legacy Society. They named PCF in their estate plan that, once they have passed away, will carry out their charitable passions and vision for an engaged community – a personal legacy that honors their years of civic pride and participation.

As Legacy Society members, Bob and Stephanie have worked with PCF in their estate to plan for a future gift that, when they are gone, will support the causes and charities they hold most dear.

“We tend to respond to unique needs in the community,” Stephanie says, reflecting on their willingness to champion overlooked causes.

From Civic Engagement to Philanthropy

Bob and Stephanie grew up in middle-class families and developed their philanthropic mindset gradually. Both have always engaged in civic life. Bob served on the Auburn City Council and even completed a term as Mayor of Auburn. Their involvement with local nonprofits and service clubs deepened their love for the community.

“This community has magical things about it,” Stephanie says. “When we started learning about the Placer Community Foundation, we had little ‘aha!’ moments. We realized we could do more to help the community than we already were.”

The Snyders credit their experiences with local organizations like the Auburn Chamber of Commerce for helping them see the community’s needs and where their support could make an impact.

Transforming Their Perspective on Giving

Bob recalls a turning point while serving on a local board where a financial advisor he met explained how giving to charity could create a greater impact than paying more in taxes upon a person’s passing.

“That conversation changed our perspective,” Stephanie adds. “Placer Community Foundation showed us how to use charitable annuities and other tools to ensure our resources help the community. PCF makes the process so easy.”

The Snyders are grateful for the range of resources available at PCF that empowers them to cover current community needs as well as provide for future needs.

Planning for the Future

Bob and Stephanie have partnered with PCF to ensure their resources will benefit the community for generations. Their story shows how thoughtful estate planning creates a lasting legacy.
