Youth supporting youth

Placer County youth have a lot to offer — fresh ideas, good questions, and a genuine desire to give back.  In return, Placer Community Foundation offers our youth a great experience in philanthropy through the Grant Advisory Board for Youth (GABY)
( PDF link for more info ), which launched in October 2007 through the Placer County Peer Court. GABY gives youth opportunities to make a positive difference in the community, both by serving on the Board and by recommending funding for youth-led projects.

GABY originally started as a project of the Sacramento Region Community Foundation in 2002, and was expanded to Placer County through a collaborative effort with the Placer Community Foundation. Additional funding partners include Sierra Health Foundation and Placer County but support from local donors is now needed to continue this work.

These teens are the future stewards of our communities near and far. The GABY program brings youth in touch with the realities of hardship and need and plant the seeds for compassionate and respectful interactions necessary to build community. GABY provides a very special opportunity to our future citizens and leaders, and we hope you can be a part.

Application information

The application process to become a member of the GABY board, or to receive a Youth HOPE Grant through GABY are currently on hold pending funding for the program. Please contact us if you are interested in applying in the future and we will be sure to keep you updated.
